Halloween Night

It was a nice day with the kidos. I was able to go two other classes with two of the kidos for Halloween activities. The kids were so sweet and loved being in the rooms. I loved the projects the first grade teachers did! Here is one of them:

The kids tasted a candy corn and wrote about it. Then they made a "candy man."

The teacher had the kidos work on thank you notes. I made one, too. I thought it was was pretty cute.
Well, the candy had been passed out, and I enjoyed some pieces!

Weekly Photos

Here are some pictures of s few things I have done this past week.

I finally felt like I was in a good place with the switch at work. Then something happened that has created stress in my life. I keep praying for an answer or an end. Thank goodness for tutoring, the kidos brighten the stress I am under!

I love this little sheet. If you are the author, tell me so I can give you credit!

I modeled how to "close read" using a sheet from one favorite site:

I made scarecrows with the students at school.
Mine is now taped to my desk.

I had some great tutoring sessions this past week. I am helping two kidos with reading and now working with another former student for math. It is quite enjoyable.

Getting word cards ready for compound word practice.

This is something new I decided to try!
I have a pile of words.
The student must come put with the second part of the compound word.
For example: sun + shine

I Love T-Charts !

Most of you know my love of T-Charts. I have used them since I was a fourth grade teacher! I just love how they can be used in ANY subject for almost any lesson!

We have been working on beginnings and endings. The student had to sort the phrases.

How do you use T-Charts in the classroom?

I do not know what it is about Fridays, but the last two have been BRUTAL! I am seriously thinking next Friday I may need a mental health day!

I had some nice sessions tutoring. We worked on building vocabulary building:

I also made some cards for a compound match up:

I am working on improving a retell with story elements. I just started last week. Here is one thing I made as the students gave me a list of characters:

We also did one for setting. During my next session I need to work on beginnings and endings.

I hope everyone had a great week! Happy Weekend! Time to rest, relax, and READ!

 Another round

Find the  Main Idea

A student refused to follow my directions.
When I went to lunch she wrote this for me:

This past week was a rough one! I was moved to a different room. That is what happens when working as a Teacher's Assistant. In my old district, I was often working in rooms when there were not enough substitute teachers. I miss having my own room.

It's that time again:

Trick - Instead of class jobs, choose one "Teacher Assistant/Classroom Helper." It takes care of all those jobs (line leader, paper passer, messenger) and makes a student feel special. I could never remember to switch jobs, so this was a great "trick" for me.
