Holly Bloggy Christmas

It's time to blog about our Bloggy Exchange!

              Holly Bloggy Christmas

I was so excited when my box arrived in the mail! I just LOVE what was given to me for this exchange!

Here are a few pictures:

My love of teaching reading made this binder the perfect gift. There were different ideas included inside!
Here is one page which I think is awesome! I love the suggestion for using white labels to write notes about each student! How great is that!
What teacher doesn't love sharpies and flairs? I cant wait to use them!
Thanks to Rachelle from What the Teacher Wants

Happy Reading!

FOOTBALL ... J-E-T-S !!

Guess what I did this weekend????

That's right - My sweet husband and I went to Cortland, NY to watch the JETS at a training session.

We spent Saturday evening in Syracuse eating at a delicious Italian restaurant called "Spaghetti Warehouse" and then went shopping! Then we woke up VERY early to head to Cortland.

If you know me, you know I love football, and I love those NY JETS !!

All three quarterbacks practicing drills at the same time - HEAVENLY !

I wish I could have been this close to Sanchez and Tebow!!!!

WOO HOO - QUARTERBACKS !!

It was so neat seeing all the different plays and drills!

One last quick picture before we (well, me - since my DH HATES thruway driving)  drove back home!

Making Sentences

I tutor in the summer and I have been working on reading skills with a student.

We have moved from unscrambling one cut up sentence into unscrambling three cut up sentences. She was having trouble putting them in order and she suggested  I number the bag. What a smartie! For now, while she gets use to doing more sentences, I did number the bags!

Then she put the sentences together and glued them in her notebook.

This is one of my favorite activities to do with kidos! I just wish I did not have to do so much cutting!

Happy Reading!

All About Me

Everyone is sharing facts about themselves.
Here are some facts about me:

I could go to Disney World and Epcot EVERY YEAR and always find something new and exciting to do there!   I must admit that I have been there 10 times. My first visit was when I was six !

I went to NYC for the first time when I was 35 with my husband. We went back once since then and I would LOVE to go again! If it was not so expensive, I would live there!

I LOVE STARBUCKS. I would go there everyday if I could afford it!

I love football! I am a JETS fan even though I live on the opposite side of  the state. I still root for my home team, but when they play THE JETS, I secretly hope my JETS win!

I love cake. I have eaten it for breakfast... SHHHH! I have such a sweet tooth. I have keep sweets out of the house! It's a good thing I also like salads and veggies, but I find it impossible to turn down cake!

If I am not watching football, I am watching Nascar. I became a fan when I was living in Florida. No one calls me on a Sunday b/c they know I won't answer the phone when my sports are on the TV. My Hubby thinks it's funny that I know more about sports than he does. Oh - I also like hockey!

I was a classroom teacher for 8 years. When I married, I began subbing with the hopes of working in a public school district. I have been a substitute teacher for a LONG time. I worked for a year as a reading specialist and it was my dream job. I just don't know if I can sub again this year. I did it last year and it made me very depressed. The thing is I love all things teaching and it is truly my passion. I keep praying this will be my year to be back in the classroom because if I don't get a job I just don't know what I am going to do !

I love shoes! What girl doesn't? I also love the color purple. I just bought a pair of light purple pants and I cant wait to wear them this fall!

I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about me!

Happy Reading !

Thoughts

I sat back today and thought about the "BIG" things that happened in my 30's. Here's the list:

1. I married my wonderful husband!
2. I went to Bermuda.
3. I quit my 4th grade teaching job.
4. I started subbing in public school.
5. I went to Las Vegas.
6. I went to NYC.
7. I was hired as a reading teacher - DREAM JOB!
8. I went to Disney
9. I went back to subbing b/c of budgets cuts.
10. The hubs and I booked a return trip to Disney because we had so much fun last year.

So.... now I am 40.

I am a teacher without a classroom. I love teaching. I miss having my own room. I am praying for job dust. I also need something else to work for because teaching jobs here are quite scarce!

I need a bucket list for my 40's.

My Dad told me his 40's were great. I am hoping for the same thing! Anyone want to give me some bucket list ideas??

I do have London on my bucket list... It's been there for awhile. I have been saving to go. I am looking for some other ideas.

I Love Target

Target is my favorite store! The other day after work I went into Target for ONE thing! I needed a new pillow and it was on sale! I came out of there with 5 things!! This is actually good for me! I can go crazy in that store!

I have been looking for the above bins for MONTHS! I use to have two larger ones, but they broke. Eight years of use is pretty good in my book! I stopped at their $1.00 Spot to browse - what teacher can resist that area?? In front of my eyes I saw a pile of these bins. WOO HOO! I picked out four different colors. I also bought a red one! They match perfect with the trays I bought at Target back in August!! I quickly left the area before I grabbed more things.

I headed to the pillow section, grabbed my pillow, and then stopped for a bag of chocolate on my way to the register!

THANK YOU TARGET ! How I love thee!

January 2, 2012

Many people know I love a certain author. I try to use her books as much as possible. Yes, it's another Laura Numeroff book!!

I was looking through this book and a new idea jumped out at me!
There are several compound words in this story:

pancake, suitcase, homesick, something
tap shoes, mailbox, backyard, tree house
wallpaper, maple syrup

I am teaching a student to chunk words. I think showing her these compound words will be another strategy she can use to read multi- syllabic words. I am going to make some cut apart index cards to practice putting compound words together.

I am looking forward to tutoring this week with this book!
