Another Summer Update

It was a very HOT last week, so I was happy that I had AC. I was even more happy that I could swim in my Mom's pool. We also went shopping in the outlet mall and they now have a LOFT outlet store. I was in shopping heaven! I worked at Loft for almost two years and I miss my discount... but now that this store is open... I am in TROUBLE!! If you don't know what this means, then you are not addicted to spinning like me. I love summer because I can go to lunch time spin with my favorite teacher. I have also been going to some 30 minute classes with my Mom!

Thanks to the weekly summer $1.00 shows at The Regal, I have seen a lot of good movies. Today I saw The Karate Kid. I LOVED it! I was so impressed with the story, the acting, and the message! I highly recommend it to anyone who has yet to see this movie!

I went to coffee with a girlfriend. I know this is surprising being that it was in the 90's last week, however, when you walk into a Starbucks here it feels like 60 inside. LOL ! I also went to a teahouse with my Mom and her SIL. We go every summer when she visits. We eat scones and tiny sandwiches.

I am on my third book of the summer. I am now reading this book:

I just started it and I am really enjoying it so far!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of July! I know some teachers are back to work in August!!

My Favorite Teacher Tools

I work with small groups and some teachers have me push into their classrooms. I have to be very organized. Last year, I had supplies in three different places and it was crazy! Because I work with a range of reading abilities, every week I had to put my reading books away and bring out new ones for the following week.

One of my favorite ways to stay organized is by using these: I label the outside of my trays with the names of my students. I even kept all necessary supplies for each small group in the tray. Their writing journals, sight words cards, crayons, sharpies, and my "boo boo" tape for their writing mistakes were in every room.

Another favorite tool is my magnetic letters. I love these ones from the website Really Good Stuff. I love how the vowels are red and the consonants are blue!
I help teachers test students and also co-teach during the first two weeks of school. Once I have my groups set, I meet with them and share (usually grade 1 & 2) my favorite book: We then talk about what "jitters" they have about reading.

What are some of your favorite teacher tools?

Childhood Favorites: I know I loved reading Judy Bloom when I was in 5th grade! I also remember my school library had those " Little Miss ... " books that I would check out over and over again! LOL. I also loved this book:
I just loved the pictures that went with the story! It was one of my favs that I read over and over!

Professional Favorites: I always go back to The First Days of School by Wong.

Guilty Pleasure Favorites: The Shopaholic Series, Debbie Macomber, Mary Higgins Clark are a few of my favorites!
