Tutoring Sessions

I made some charts and worksheets for tutoring. Here are the pictures:

Working on parts of speech.
Here is the chart I made:

Getting ready to make a T-chart
of adjectives & adverbs.

We also looked for adjectives and adverbs in out reading.

During my other tutoring session I continued to work on main idea and detail.
I wrote this first main idea on the worksheet below. I had the student come up with one for the second group of details. I will continue to practice during the next session.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! Boy - they go by fast!

Happy Reading!

Wordless Wednesday... Well, Not Really!

I adapted the art project for the kidos and made a model. I love they way mine looks. I just need to go back and color the one spot I missed. Can you find it?

The teacher is working on various literacy sorts. Here is one I did today. I love the way it looks:

Today was a crazy day. Between the fire drill, a kid leaving ones' seat THREE times in the lunch room, and another kido refused to listen to a teacher. Then at bus duty I saw one of my students from last year having a little meltdown by the buses. He actually had to be picked up and carried to the bus.

What is it with Wednesdays? Last week was a doozy, too!

Happy Reading!

Tutoring Perk

One of the perks of tutoring, aside from the one on one work, is the fact that I can be a little more creative with lessons. I do not have anyone telling me how to teach or what stories I have to read. I love it. I wish there was a way to tutor all day!

I worked with a kido over the weekend on main idea/details. I had asked this kido the week before some interests. He told me he loves superhero stories. I began the lesson asking him to tell me some things about Superman. Then I wrote them down. I explained how there were details. We wrote a main idea sentence for the details. Here are two pictures from my session:

I have some more fun lessons planned to work on main idea/detail.

At school last week, we went to art and the project we did was too hard for the kidos I work with, so we did this instead:

I ran out of time to color my trunk brown. LOL.

We have testing this week, so I am not what I will be doing in my small groups this week. We shall see. Hope everyone has a good week!

Happy Reading!

GRRR....

A quick vent...

I woke up today with a sore throat. SERIOUSLY? I have been in school for 10 days. One student has been out for two days. Another kido was sick and out today! I can't believe it! It's way too early for this. I have my own supplies and have been washing my hands like crazy. I'm just so annoyed.

We are working on /th/ and sight words this week. A lot of the kidos need handwriting practice so we read, spell, # read the word, then they trace it and then write it.

My example had one row and I modeled the tracing.
Two student samples.

Hope everyone is having a great week!
I am just glad tomorrow is Friday. Do school germs die over the weekends?

Happy reading!

Some photos for you

It has been a busy time. Trying to learn how a new teacher works as well as learning the behaviors of new students makes my day fly. I feel like i have been back to work longer than just 9 days! Here are a few pictures:

Tutoring Lesson ... To Be Continued Next session.

Drawing our favorite part of the story.

The kidos I work with this year need a lot of help with writing.

My husband took a quick pic of me because I was singing
" I love school supplies." Who doesn't?

Weekly Photos

I had an interesting week back to school. I am working in second grade this year. The first day had a girl with a few tears and a girl slapped my arm. The second day I had a kido running down the hall - yep another year with a flight risk. One day at a time said a co-worker.  I am going to try and remember that this year,

Here are a few pictures from tutoring and a lesson the teacher asked me to do on Friday:

Modelling rhyming words

Comparing Telling Sentences vs. Showing Sentences
at a tutoring session.
How many synonyms can you come up with for "good"?

I hope I have a good first full week!
Happy Reading Everyone!

Currently

I cannot believe I am posting my September Currently.

I just spent my Labor Day morning staring at the beautiful Adam Levine.
I love his voice... and looks. LOL!

I love football and always enjoy my football Sundays!

I am sad to see summer go. I already posted this earlier today!

I want to go shopping! A trip to Old Navy is calling me!

I want to shop, but I DON'T NEED TO !

Three Trips: Since I just took my dream vacation, I am now saving for my husband's dream trip which is Hawaii. Heck - sunshine, beaches, and warm weather. I am game! I want to go to Texas because I have cousins there and I have always wanted to visit them. I also said Italy because I would love to see the sights. I would be afraid to go without a guide though b/c I don't speak the language.

I hope everyone checks out Farley's Currently here:

Happy Reading!

What... September !

I love fall weather! I love football! I love pumpkin anything!

BUT...

I am always sad to see summer end. I love the sunshine, the warmth, and my pool time.

It's back to school for me tomorrow! I am returning to the same school as a teacher assistant, but I don't know what classroom until tomorrow. It has been three years since I started a job on the first day. My long term sub jobs all began after September.

Here's hoping all the teachers returning to work tomorrow have a great first day!

Happy Reading!
