Happy Friday

I had such a busy week getting back into the swing of things after having a week off that I did not take one picture. I will have to add it to my to do list for next week. I have been teaching character anaylsis to my 4th graders and Folktales with a focus on theme to my 5th graders. I made some cute things to introduce both topics. I cannot wait to take some pictures and share here.

Now, on a personal note:

I love my job!

Yesterday a kido said to me, "It must be cool to teach reading all day!"

He made me smile because he reminded how much I love books and helping struggling readers love books! This kido is a mini-me. When I introduce theme earlier in the week and said "If we planned a theme party, what would it be?" He replied "80's" I looked at him and said, " I loved you before, but now I love you even more!" The kids cracked up! I told them how my husband always tells me I am stuck in the 80's.

As the kids left I thought to myself, it is so nice to develop relationships with young adults. I have no children, so every year I teach, I think of my students as my own... even if it is only for a little while!

It's those little things in teaching that make me love this job. I have been doing it since Jan. 5th! It has been such a joy! I feel the past  two years of the stress and tears have led me to this job. I thank God everyday for this gift!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Winter Break!

I have the week off to sleep in, read a book, and see some friends. It is SO COLD! This would have been a great year to go somewhere warm!

I took a few pictures on Friday of some pictures in my classroom. Here they are:

We did a lot of sequence practice.

Transition Words

Examples of Sequence

The Bulletin board I made

When I return to work, I am reading folktales with the 5th grade to practice finding the theme. I am reading fiction stories with the 4th graders to analyze character. We will do that for two-three weeks and then I plan to practice reading and answering multiple choice questions for their test prep.

I had my 4th graders read some biographies and then they wrote a mini autobiography. One kido really rocked. I love when a student does exactly what I model and shows a real improvement in writing. On the other hand, I have a student I am worried about and I do not even know how to correct all the issues. I keep reminding myself to take one day, one lesson at a time!

I hope everyone had a good week. It is not going to hit above 20 here, so Ill be drinking a lot of hot tea! I am ready for spring. I am tried of sweater season!

Happy Reading!

Snowy Saturday!

I heard on the news today that we have only had 3 days since out winter without snow. I also cannot believe how cold it has been here! We have not has this much snow in 12 years! YIKES!

I had a nice week at work. I had another busy week, but I did manage to take a few more pictures.

I love my poster.
Yes, I am a nerd!

Students are so good at finding character traits!

I had different students focus on different characters while reading.

I gave the kido I tutor a list of words and she had to add a suffix to the word.

I went to my favorite place again for some Friday night shopping.
Who doesn't love Starbucks and Target?

Happy Reading!

Classroom Photos

I have been enjoying my job teaching reading all day. I really like the kids. Every week I feel like I have a little more of a routine. I have a crazy schedule, so I am still getting use to it. I do finally know almost all of my kids names. LOL.

I took some pictures of some of the lessons I have been doing, so I wanted to share them with my blog readers. I may not have the time or creativity to create things for TPT, but I still love sharing my ideas though pictures.

My example for the class to use.

 Have you visited the website:
It has all the "I can" statements!

We have been working on making inferences for 3 weeks.
I think the kids are ready for something new.
I am not sure what I should so next.

In grade 4 we are working on sequence.
We are reading biographies first to help with this strategy.

More to come!
Happy Reading!

WHAT? It's February!

I do not know where the past week has gone. I have pictures to share, a post to write, but I have been studying like a crazy person. I just started my new grad class. Boy has college changed since I was there 3 years ago!

Well, I did manage to squeeze in time for this:

I love reading these. I cannot wait to respond to some of them!
I hope everyone enjoys the Superbowl later!
